The Election Technology Initiative is a state-driven organization dedicated to maintaining and supporting open-source election software tools that ease administrative and financial burdens on election offices and increase access for all voters regardless of location, disability, or language while improving voter confidence in election results.
The ETI maintains and supports several open-source election software tools including ElectionGuard. These tools aim to increase transparency and security in elections while decreasing administrative burdens on election officials.
The advisory council consists of working group members, subject matter experts and federal advisors who meet semi-annually to drive the future of the initiative, including determining what technologies come under the program.
The working group consists of state and local election officials who meet quarterly to discuss elections technology solutions, provide input for pilots and implementations, and review upcoming publications.
The ETI publishes articles on emerging issues related to open-source election software tools, recent technology implementations and general trends within the elections technology landscape.
The ETI encourages participation from anyone interested in supporting elections —whether you’re an election official, policymaker, developer or voter. You can get involved by observing elections that use ETI-supported tools, contributing to open-source development, joining our advisory group or simply learning more through our resources. Please reach out using the contact form to let us know how you’d like to get involved.
The ETI maintains open-source tools that enhance transparency, security and accessibility. These tools are designed to integrate with existing voting systems and are developed in collaboration with election officials, technologists and policy experts. The ETI also provides educational resources, implementation toolkits and real-world case studies to guide adoption and best practices.
The Election Technology Initiative currently supports and maintains ElectionGuard, an open-source software tool that brings end-to-end verifiability to elections. ElectionGuard allows voters to confirm their ballots were counted and enables independent verification of election results—all without compromising ballot secrecy. As the initiative grows, additional open-source election technologies will be added based on the needs of election officials and input from the Advisory Council and Working Group.
